Remus Azoiŝei

Soloist and Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

“An uninhibited virtuoso, with soul and a fabulous technique”, was described in the British magazine “The Strad” the violinist Remus Azoiţei. Graduate of the Bucharest Conservatory of Music in Daniel Podlovski’s class, Azoiţei received a scholarship to the Juilliard School in New York, where he studied with Dorothy Delay and Itzhak Perlman.

In 2001, Remus Azoiŝei was appointed Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, becoming the youngest ever violin professor in the history of the institution. In 2005 he was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Cultural Merit by the President of Romania. Mr.Azoitei is the Artistic Director of the “Enescu Society” in London and one of its founding members.

Remus Azoiţei has performed in prestigious concert halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Salle Cortot in Paris, Konzerthausin Berlin, St-Martin-in-the-Fields and the Wigmore Hall in London, Teatro La Fenicein Venice, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid and the Konzerthaus in Vienna.

He appeared in music festivals in Tokyo, Cambridge, London, Berlin, Heidelberg and Santander, among others. He collaborated with renowned artists including David Geringas, Gerard Causse, Michael Sanderling, Adrian Brendel and the Voces string quartet.

Remus Azoiţei was soloist of prestigious ensembles such as Berlin Kammerorkester, Orchestre National de Belgique and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in Bucharest, at the International “George Enescu” Festival, among many others. After his debut in Washington, the Washington Post notes: ”Azoiŝei played with a fluid melodic sensibility and sparkling technique.”

Together with the pianist Eduard Stan, Remus Azoiŝei has made the first ever recording of the entire repertoire for violin and piano by George Enescu for Hänssler Classic label. Launched in 2007 on 2 CDs, the collection has attracted international acclaim, such as “… the refined but vibrant performing style of Remus Azoiŝei… a distinctive player who combines temperament, mastery of idiom and executive elegance in a very special way” – The Gramophone, or “Astonishing clarity… a superb disc.” – International Record Review.

Remus Azoiŝei lives in London, and performs on a violin made by Nicola Gagliano in 1735, on loan from the Royal Academy of Music’s collection.
